Custom Closet Drawers

Custom Cabinet Drawers
There is a constant stream of questions amongst Scampers about what to do with the closet. Space is hard to come by in a tiny trailer and this wide open cabinet with a wheel-well in the bottom seems like it could be utilized in so many ways. Being that it is built from fiberglass, you can't really modify the shell, so you have to work with the open cavity and be creative about what to do inside.

We have ready many blogs and viewed lots of pics online about how others have customized this space. Shelves seem to be a common fix. But that one day when I came across a post of someone putting in drawers, that changed everything...

Chris was wanting to put in shelves, but I kept presenting my case for drawers...
Who's the winner now? We both are. Because drawers are awesome.

It all tucks neatly behind this door. When space is at such a premium, I'm always surprised that Scamp doesn't do more to at least put in doors to the bottom of the cabinet for access or shelves.
But we are working with what we have and making the best of it.

Chris created a plan on how to build a frame inside this space with uneven floors, a wheel-well covered in rat fur and a closet that was made of fiberglass and not totally square. It was a challenge to say the least, but this is the framing he put together.

All of the areas that would be visible with the drawers in place were painted.

I came down with the flu during the construction process, so I did not get pictures of the actual build.
I came out to check on the progress and asked how it was going. His response... Shelves would be done by now... They were a challenge, but worth it!
The frame is painted. Tracks were installed and we now have drawers!
You can see from the bottom drawer that the opening is not square.

We've taken Shirley out for a couple of adventures since these were installed and they work perfectly!
We put everything in the drawers and then put in throw pillows or kitchen towels to fill the voids so nothing shifts while traveling. So far, everything stays put.

Super excited to now have drawers!
Many thanks to my super-talented guy who can come up with a plan
and make my crazy ideas a reality.
LOVE THE DRAWERS!
